ABOUT THE ARTIST —
My artistic journey and inspiration
Hello, I’m André, but you can call me Déh — a childhood nickname I’ve had since I was young. It is also a familiar way of referring to André in Brazil, where I was born.
I have lived in Ireland for over 16 years, and my creative journey began with a background in design and illustration. I attended the National College of Art and Design (NCAD), where I attained a BA (Hons) in Illustration, as well as the University of Wolverhampton, where I attained a BA (Hons) in Animation.
Now based in West County Wicklow, I have worked across a range of creative disciplines, including illustration, animation and visual storytelling, before returning to painting as a more personal form of expression.
MY PRACTICE —
I have always been drawn to creating images that communicate mood, atmosphere and a sense of place.
Living in Ireland for over 16 years has given me a deep connection to its landscapes — the mountains, lakes, rocky coastlines, stone walls and constantly changing light.
Painting allows me to slow those moments down and reinterpret the places I experience through my own perspective, transforming them into something new while retaining the essence and feeling of the Irish landscape.
I am inspired by the quiet beauty of Ireland and by the way light, weather and colour can completely transform the character of a place.
